Let me just cut to the chase: Open the book, pick up your harmonica, skim, play harmonica. It really is that easy, and certainly very accessible.
The writing style? Kinda' hippieish, yeah, but if you're the sort of person who wants to play blues harmonica and have ever said "cool man" at least once in your life (but I repeat myself) you'll be fine with it. It certainly works well for the type of teaching going on, where a dry tab A > slot B style wouldn't.
But yeah, I'm having a lot of fun playing with the harmonica now, and with the implied consent of the book, via its tone, I understand that it's mostly about having fun. If you're thinking about getting this book enough to read the reviews, then go ahead and get the book. You won't regret it.

Rock n' Blues Harmonica is where I started 5 years ago. I have purchased many harmonica lesson products and taken advantage of EVERYTHING free available that I could find on-line. Jon Gindick has by far the best instruction available for beginners. He will have you playing blues in no time, and he will move you from beginner to intermediate in record time! When people ask me where the heck I learned to play like that, I tell them JON GINDICK. Get this and everything else you can from him. I have never met him, but hope to go to one of his "Jam Camps" some day. When I do, I will tell him how much his information, lessons, products, everything helped me play the harp like I never dreamed was possible. GET THIS BOOK W/ CD AND HARP ON!

Never new a teaching aid as good as this existed. I have been playing blues harmonica in bands for many years but couldn't get further. Jon Gindick explains very simply what you are doing fundamentally. Then goes on with easy to understand excersises how to develope and improve. This book is landmark publication for anyone interested in starting blues harp and anyone who wants to play the authentic style and sound real.

Ok... I'll admit that I haven't spent oodles of time with this book, so I'm not sure how helpful others will view this review. I bought this book, obviously, to teach myself the harmonica, and so far, I'm happy with the results. It introduces you to music theory, how to read tablature, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to heavily invest in the harmonica; however, my wife's started recognizing little riffs the book has introduced me to, and the cd sounds promising. It makes you want to play better with the band that's in the background, and Gindick has lots of enthusiasm for playing.
Other reviewers may not like the whole 'caveman' motif, but it's not that bad. I'm looking forward to having some more time soon to practice more.

First of all, I can't imagine the sort of person who would get wound up by the story and cartoons in the book. I found them pleasant and amusing, as well as usefully instructive. It was very refreshing to get a different formula from other music tutor-books. Gindick is clearly a nice man with a good sense of humor, and also a great teacher. I can only imagine what sort of person would actually find the cartoons and story offensive, but I imagine thye are the sort of villain or blackguard who hates children and thinks fairy-tales are stupid. This book rules. (They are probably also the sort of people who didn't like the Lord of the Rings movies, the sure sign of a scoundrel).
I have been busting my chops with Yerxa's Harmonica for Dummies and getting nowhere for the past month or so. I picked up this book today an within ten minutes of listening to the CD I was having a blast and had learnt more practical music theory too. Get this book right now, don't get any other one first. I wish I had.
